Management of short bulbar strictures: Debate on several techniques

In the lead up to the ESGURS-ESAU26 Meeting, the EAU Section of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons have released an EAU Podcast episode to discuss the management of short bulbar urethral strictures and the different treatment options available in clinical practice.

In this expert conversation, Dr. Marjan Waterloos is joined by Dr. Saskia Morgenstern, Dr. Felix Campos Juanatey and Dr. Leonidas Karapanos to discuss the diagnostic work-up of urethral strictures, including the role of urethrography, urethroscopy and patient-reported outcome measures, before discussing the indications for endoscopic treatment and urethroplasty.

The faculty compare different surgical approaches, consider how stricture characteristics and patient preferences influence treatment selection, and discuss how outcomes should be evaluated during follow-up. The episode also highlights the importance of looking beyond anatomical success by considering functional outcomes, patient satisfaction and quality of life.
