In this short video interview with Dr. Marjan Waterloos, urologist at Maria Middelares Hospital in Ghent (BE), she outlines what attendees can expect at ESGURS-ESAU26 with the live surgical programme and key developments in urological reconstruction and andrology.
“Together with Prof. Nicolas Lumen from the University Hospital in Ghent, we will be organising ESGURS-ESAU26 as the local organising committee. We have seven live surgery sessions, each consisting of two live surgeries and one semi live unedited video.”
“We have a lot of interesting cases that will be demonstrated. This includes urethral reconstruction in males and females. We have some penile deformities and curvatures cases. We will feature robotic surgery for upper tract reconstruction, and minimally invasive techniques. We also have penile implants and sphincter implants, including in females. There will be something in the programme for everyone’s interests”.
What are the key learning opportunities?
“This is a two way street. Firstly, we have plenary sessions where we can learn the latest updates in each field of reconstructive urology and andrology. Secondly, we will have interesting debates, for example, young urologists will share their experience on setting up their career in reconstructive urology and andrology, and the legends of these fields will share their experiences. This is a great learning opportunity to understand how the legends of these fields built their careers and how things have evolved over time.”
“The second aspect of the meeting is the live surgery, which creates amazing educational opportunities to see what happens in real life – how a complication is managed during surgery, how unexpected situations can be solved. I think it’s very valuable for the learning process of both young and more experienced urologists.”
